  9. ChartTamer is a powerful and very easy to use chart creation program. You 
  10. can create presentation quality Bar, Pie, Area, Line, and a variety
  11. of other chart types.  Special effects include the ability to add any
  12. bitmap as a background to your chart.  This is perfect for company logos,
  13. photos of the subject the chart covers, or use a custom 3D bitmap and
  14. tile it behind your chart for a unique look.  Total control of color, fill
  15. patterns, and more is just a mouse click away!

  20. ChartTamer REQUIRES VBRUN200.DLL the Visual Basic runtime DLL.  This file
  21. is NOT included with the program to save you download time and to conserve
  22. space.  It is available on our BBS at 602-375-0531 2400 baud and 602-375-9945
  23. 9600 baud, 24 hours a day.  It is also available on most BBS around the
  24. country.  ChartTamer WILL NOT run without this file!

  26.                       ****** Important Files *****
  27.                       -----------------------------
  28. ChartTamer uses customized versions of files that are provided with the
  29. Visual Basic Professional Edition 1.0 and 2.0 versions.  These files are:
  30.  
  31. 1. GRAPH.VBX
  32. 2. GSW.EXE
  33. 3. GSWDLL.DLL
  34. 4. THREED.VBX
  35.  
  36. It is IMPERATIVE that you replace any of these files on your hard drive
  37. with the files contained in the ChartTamer Archive.  These files won't
  38. interfere with any existing programs you may have, but they are required by
  39. ChartTamer in order for it to function properly.

  41. The best and safest way to insure proper program operation is to copy the
  42. files listed above to your windows/system directory.  Then all other
  43. programs you have that need these files will also have access to them.

  45.                           Installing ChartTamer

  48. The ChartTamer 2.0 Program Files
  49.  --------------------------------- 
  50.  The ChartTamer program files are in compressed format. You must run the
  51.  CTSETUP program to expand them before the program can be used.  The
  52.  setup program will create a Program Manager group and add the program
  53.  files and other important files to the group.  
  54.  
  55.  PLEASE NOTE:
  56.  ------------
  57.  You must run CTSETUP.EXE from the Windows Program Manager.  Other shells
  58.  like the Norton Desktop or PC Tools for Windows are not 100% compatible
  59.  with our setup program and may cause it to fail when attempting to create 
  60.  the ChartTamer Group.

  62.  Step 1
  63.  Running The CTSETUP Program
  64.  ----------------------------
  65.  After extracting the CTAMR2.ZIP file to either a directory on your hard drive
  66.  or to a floppy drive. Start Windows and make sure that the Windows 
  67.  Program Manager is running.
  68.  
  69.  1. From the Program Manager File Menu choose Run...
  70.  2. Enter the location of the CTSETUP Program. If the files were on your
  71.     A: drive then you would enter: A:\CTSETUP and press Enter or Click on
  72.     the OK button.
  73.  3. The ChartTamer 2.0 setup dialog will be displayed.
  74.  4. The edit field will display a suggested directory.
  75.  5. Press OK to accept the default directory or enter new destination
  76.     directory and press Enter or Click on the OK button.
  77.  6. The setup program will create the directory for you and display
  78.     the file installation progress.
  79.  7. When it has finished expanding and copying the files it will create
  80.     a new Program Manager Group and add the program files to the group.

  83. A Note About The Graphics Server Program GSW.EXE
  84. ------------------------------------------------
  85. When ChartTamer runs you will notice that there are 2 icons at the bottom
  86. of your screen, one for ChartTamer and one for the server.  The server is
  87. used to speed up the creation and re-calculation of the charts you create. 
  88. It frees your computers CPU from much of the time consuming graphic
  89. calculation operations.  If you close the server while ChartTamer is still
  90. open, ChartTamer will lose its graphics capability!

  92. Program Documentation
  93. ----------------------
  94. The documentation for ChartTamer is contained in the Windows help file
  95. supplied with the program.  ChartTamer is so easy to use that you may never 
  96. need to refer to the help. If you do, ChartTamer uses Context Sensitive Help,
  97. so for any Dialog Box or Menu Item Press F1.  Pressing the Help Button in a 
  98. dialog box will give you the ChartTamer Table Of Contents.

  100. Packing List
  101. ------------
  102. The packing.lst file contains a list of the files that you should have
  103. received with ChartTamer.  If you find there is a file missing call our BBS
  104. at 602-375-0531, 2400 baud or 602-375-9945 for 9600 baud access.

  106.                             Quick Start Guide
  107.                             -----------------
  108. Since most of you want to take right off with a new program here are a few
  109. of the important features that might not be apparent from a quick glance.
  110.  
  111. Quick Data Mode
  112. ---------------
  113. This option is selected from the Options menu.  With it you can change the
  114. value of any individual point on your chart.  All you have to do is click
  115. once on the point that you want to change.  The new value will be displayed
  116. immediately and will carry over to all chart types.  Turn Quick Data on and
  117. off by clicking on it in the menu.
  118.  
  119. HINT -> Don't try to use quick data on line or area graphs.  It can be very
  120. tricky to hit the exact point you want to change. Instead change to a bar
  121. chart.  It is very easy click on a bar and change its value.  Remember if
  122. you use Quick Data with a pie chart you will be making changes to the First
  123. Data Set Only, since pie chart only use one data set.

  125. Quick Data changes the data value in memory only, so you original data is
  126. left undisturbed.  If you want to make a quick data change permanent you
  127. will have to edit your data file by pressing Ctrl + D or pressing the Edit
  128. Data tool in the tool bar.

  130. Double Click Mode
  131. -----------------
  132. By default you can always change the default chart type by double clicking
  133. on the current type.

  135. Sample Data Files
  136. -----------------
  137. ChartTamer includes 3 sample data files you can open and change as needed.
  138. They also serve as an example of how to format any ASCII text so you can
  139. immediately use it as a ChartTamer Data File.  For full information on how
  140. to import data into ChartTamer refer to the Windows Help file included with
  141. this program.
